The Baba Sali and The Rebbe


The late Rabbi Nosson Ashkenazi once related:When I was a yeshiva bochur, I was sent with two other boys to the Baba Sali, to bring him a letter from the Rebbe.


When we arrived at the Baba Sali’s home in Netivot, we announced, that the Lubavitcher Rebbe had sent us, to deliver a personal letter from him to the Baba Sali.

We were quickly ushered into the Baba Sali’s room, where the Baba Sali greeted us warmly. He offered us a glass of arak, to say Lechaim.When the Baba Sali had finished reading the letter, I asked him why he did not visit the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

Raising his hands slightly, the Baba Sali replied, “We see each other sometimes…”
